Going back to Joss's stuff after having experienced "Dollhouse" *really* puts things in perspective in terms of his creepiness, doesn't it?

I mostly watched Dollhouse so I could provide the other side of the argument to fandom's "oh, it's so FEMINIST!" that was no doubt going to come with Joss's name on the project, but having watched that, things that were just merely disturbing and off-putting before (like the weirdly graphic rape threats in Buffy season 6 premiere or the whole Spike plot in the later seasons) really started to fit into his pattern.

And yeah, Joss's thing for fragile young women (who are often also childlike) being strong while women like Inara or Lilah (or even Emma Frsot) who are strong and assertive being either portrayed as evil or being punished by the narratives in other ways really is one of the creepiest things about him.

Which is why I always say that Joss is a especially weird and kinky version of the Madonna/Whore complex, which is individualized enough to his taste that most people fail to pick up on it, but wow, is it there in everything he ever does.
